Flood, pool and concrete - Inondations, piscine et béton

So yes, in case anybody had a doubt, when you are renovating a house, you always have unexpected issues which lead to unexpected cost. For us this time was the concrete part and the driveway! 
Donc oui, au cas où quelqu'un avait un doute, quand vous rénovez une maison, vous rencontrez toujours des imprévus qui amènent toujours à des hausses de budget, pas prévues non plus. Pour nous cette fois ci ce fut l'allée! 

Let's get the hammer - On sort le marteau

Next step was framing. The wood construction was totally new to us who are from a country where walls are made (most of them) out of concrete... so I was really interrogative when we had the materials delivered. A big pile of Lego® right?

L'étape suivante fut les murs extérieurs. La construction en bois est totalement nouvelle pour nous qui sommes d'un pays où la plus part des murs sont en béton... j'étais donc très interrogative quand on nous a livré les matériaux. une pile de Lego® n'est ce pas?

Ca commence par un trou - It begins with the hole!

New construction starts with foundations! it is universal! We were in France at that time so the kids missed the big trucks but it happened, our young neighbors were here to tell us!
Toute nouvelle construction commence par les fondations, c'est universel! Nous étions en France quand cela s'est passé donc les enfants ont raté les gros camions mais cela s'est passé, nos jeunes voisins étaient là pour témoigner! ravis d’être aux premières loges!

Faire place nette - Make the old disappear

It all started by cleaning the place and demolishing the old one to then build the new one. We tried to keep a part of the porch but to be able to attach the garage we needed couple of feet more so we had to start from new.

Tout a commencé par le nettoyage de l'espace et la démolition de l'ancien porche. Nous avons bien essayer de garder ce porche mais pour pouvoir attacher le garage il nous manquait un peu moins d'un mètre et nous avons donc du reconstruire depuis les fondations.

Here we are again! - On s' y remet!

A bit more than 1 year since our move in this new house, so a bit more than a year since the end of the first phase of our big project. And here we are again! For several reasons but mainly for financial reasons, we had to take couple of months to figure out how to move forward on the second part of the project. So after some works with a financial adviser, some banks and of course some thoughts with our general contractor, we started the second part of the project last June.
Un peu plus d'un an depuis notre aménagement dans notre nouvelle demeure et donc un peu plus d'un an depuis la fin de la première phase de notre gros projet. et nous y revoilà! Pour plusieurs raisons mais surtout pour des raisons financières, nous avons du faire une pause de quelques mois pour décider comment nous allions attaquer cette nouvelle phase. Après des discussions avec notre conseiller financier puis des négociations avec plusieurs banques nous avons établi le plan d'attaque avec le chef de chantier et l'architecte et avons démarré en Juin dernier.

After months away from the brushes and sand paper, we had to come back! It was already couple of months ago but I haven't got time to post the pictures... What did push us to start again it? to look for your winter clothes on the bottom of boxes.. we had to do something with that closet!
Après plusieurs mois loin des pinceaux et du papier de verre, il fallait s'y remettre. Le projet date deja de quelques mois mais je n' ai pas eu le temps de vous postez les photos. Ce qui nous a poussé à recommencer? Partir à la recherche de nos habits d'hiver au fond des cartons... la on s'est dit il faut faire quelquechose pour ce placard! 

Master Bath Before/After - Salle de bains Parentale Avant/Après

Final post before and After , for now! The other major change with the kitchen was the addition of a master bath upstairs. After several considerations, we've decided to turn one of the bedrooms and the 2 closets into a master bath and used the rest of the space for a walk in closet which happens to be a really really decent size... 

Dernier article Avant/Après, pour l'instant! L'autre changement majeur avec la cuisine est l'ajout d'une salle de bain au premier étage. Après avoir étudié plusieurs options, nous avons décidé de transformer une chambre et les 2 placards en une salle de bains et utiliser l'espace restant comme grand espace de rangement et cela se révèle un placard de taille vraiment raisonnable...
