Sanding, repairing, sanding, spraying, spraying! then wait for the pro to nail and then patching again and spraying again!!! enough to be busy for another weekend!

Ponçage, réparation, ponçage, pulvérisation, pulvérisation! puis attendre que les pros cloutent and bouchage de trous et pulvérisation!!! de quoi s'occuper pour un autre week end!

Fun part - partie sympa

 We wanted to give a personal touch the the new area by adding some fun wallpaper. here some of the options we've considered, hard to just pick 2!

Nous avons voulu donner une petite touche personnelle à la nouvelle partie en mettant un papier peint plutôt original. trop du choix! dur de n'en choisir que 2!

Let's get the hammer - On sort le marteau

Next step was framing. The wood construction was totally new to us who are from a country where walls are made (most of them) out of concrete... so I was really interrogative when we had the materials delivered. A big pile of Lego® right?

L'étape suivante fut les murs extérieurs. La construction en bois est totalement nouvelle pour nous qui sommes d'un pays où la plus part des murs sont en béton... j'étais donc très interrogative quand on nous a livré les matériaux. une pile de Lego® n'est ce pas?

Ca commence par un trou - It begins with the hole!

New construction starts with foundations! it is universal! We were in France at that time so the kids missed the big trucks but it happened, our young neighbors were here to tell us!
Toute nouvelle construction commence par les fondations, c'est universel! Nous étions en France quand cela s'est passé donc les enfants ont raté les gros camions mais cela s'est passé, nos jeunes voisins étaient là pour témoigner! ravis d’être aux premières loges!

Faire place nette - Make the old disappear

It all started by cleaning the place and demolishing the old one to then build the new one. We tried to keep a part of the porch but to be able to attach the garage we needed couple of feet more so we had to start from new.

Tout a commencé par le nettoyage de l'espace et la démolition de l'ancien porche. Nous avons bien essayer de garder ce porche mais pour pouvoir attacher le garage il nous manquait un peu moins d'un mètre et nous avons donc du reconstruire depuis les fondations.

Wallpaper Part 1 / Papier Peint 1ère Partie

After months away from the brushes and sand paper, we had to come back! It was already couple of months ago but I haven't got time to post the pictures... What did push us to start again it? to look for your winter clothes on the bottom of boxes.. we had to do something with that closet!
Après plusieurs mois loin des pinceaux et du papier de verre, il fallait s'y remettre. Le projet date deja de quelques mois mais je n' ai pas eu le temps de vous postez les photos. Ce qui nous a poussé à recommencer? Partir à la recherche de nos habits d'hiver au fond des cartons... la on s'est dit il faut faire quelquechose pour ce placard! 

Master Bath Before/After - Salle de bains Parentale Avant/Après

Final post before and After , for now! The other major change with the kitchen was the addition of a master bath upstairs. After several considerations, we've decided to turn one of the bedrooms and the 2 closets into a master bath and used the rest of the space for a walk in closet which happens to be a really really decent size... 

Dernier article Avant/Après, pour l'instant! L'autre changement majeur avec la cuisine est l'ajout d'une salle de bain au premier étage. Après avoir étudié plusieurs options, nous avons décidé de transformer une chambre et les 2 placards en une salle de bains et utiliser l'espace restant comme grand espace de rangement et cela se révèle un placard de taille vraiment raisonnable...

Master Bed Before/After - Chambre Parent Avant/Après

This room is known allover the neighborhood and the house is known as the house with the fabric on the wall... so not anymore! This was just too much! and the seller offered some leftover to make a comforter! well, not for us.
Cette chambre est connue dans tout le quartier, la maison est surnomée la maison avec le tissu sur le mur... et bien c'est du passé! C'était juste trop! and les vendeurs nous ont meme proposé de nous donner des restes de tissus pour fair un couvre lit! pas vraiment notre style!

Ah the kid bedrooms! They were definitely from another period of time! 

Kid Bathroom Before/After - Salle de bains des enfants Avant/Après

The green color is probably the only thing that the new bathroom shares with the old one! 
La couleur verte est probablement la seule chose en commun entre la nouvelle et l'ancienne salle de bains de enfants!

Sunroom Before/After - Veranda Avant/Après

Here also the work we've done was mostly cosmetic: carpet removal, wallpaper removal, windows treatment removal, cleaning and painting. The book shelves were a long work but here we are! We are finally using it temporarily as a playroom; it is a wonderful, bright room, surrounded, for now, by bushes ...

Ici aussi, les travaux étaient principalement esthétiques: enlever la moquette, le papier peint, enlever les gros coffrages de rideaux, nettoyage et peinture. La bibliothèque a été un gros morceau mais nous y sommes! Nous l'utilisons de façon temporaire comme salle de jeux; c'est une superbe pièce, très claire et ensoleillée, entourée pour el moment d'arbustes!

Living Room Before/After - Salon Avant/Après

This part of the remodeling "has been mostly" cosmetic; wallpaper removal and painting but it definitely looks like another house! The doors/arches have been cut into a rectangle shape and opened up to have the feeling of an area more opened! Windows have been repainted and all of the sudden the room looks more clean!

Cette partie de la rénovation n'a été "quasiment que" esthétique; du papier peint à enlever, de la peinture et on dirait une autre maison! Les portes ont été redécoupées et agrandies pour obtenir une ouverture rectangulaire et donner l'impression d'un espace plus grand! Les fenetres ont été repeintes et d'un coup d'un seul, la pièce semble plus propre!

Kitchen Before/After - Cuisine Avant/Après

Many things have happened this past month, since the moving, including a computer bug! but I am back with some new pictures! Today, on May 29th, it's the last steps for this first phase and it is happening in the attic but I will come back to that later. I am taking the opportunity to look at what we've done as I am sure you've been dying to see more!

Il s'est passé beaucoup de choses depuis 1 mois, depuis ce déménagement, et entre autres un petit bug informatique! mais me voilà de retour, avec de nouvelles photos! Aujourd'hui 29 mai est le dernier jour de cette première phase de travaux et ca se passe au grenier mais j'y reviendrai! l'occasion de faire le point et de partager quelques photos car je vous ai laissé sur votre faim peut etre!

Even better with the stain! they will put a last varnish coat right before we move in for a perfect finishing! who would cover those wonderful floor with carpet?!

Encore mieux avec la teinture! ils metteront le vernis vitrificateur juste avant l'emménagement pour un fini parfait! Qui recouvrirait ces magnifiques sols avec de la moquette?!

Finally got time to take pictures!!!! a lot of work has be done over the past days as we have been using the extra help we have (and who leaves tomorrow :( )!!! 1 week on the windows and the big built-in book shelving in the sunroom then 2 days on the walls and the kid closets!!! and our part is coming to an end or almost!!!

The result is just so good! we were able to have some clean windows; even if white paint on stained wood is not the easiest thing to do despite the time we spent sanding last month. But the color on the wall is bringing this house to the new millennium!!!

Walls!!!!! - Murs!!!!

Right, finally got some time (spring break and kid birthday take so time in fact!!!) to post some pictures with some explanations!!! After couple of weeks of slowing down on the pro part, we are finally starting the final step today!!!!

But let's get back in time a little bit as I've realized I've left you at the insulation! so next step was to close the walls of course! and to finish to clean the old walls for our part of the house so fast! then patching and texture the entire house!! again super fast when everything is covered! 

What about the Kid bedrooms? Et les Chambres des enfants?

We are coming here. As the office/sunroom was the room which has needed the most preparation work, we've been focusing on it since the beginning. Last weekend we started to work on the kid bedrooms. To start? the carpet of course!

Nous y arrivons. Comme le bureau était la pièce la plus longue à préparer, nous nous sommes focalisés la dessus au démarrage. Le weekend dernier nous avons démarré une des chambres d'enfant; au programme: la moquette bien sur!

Kid Bathroom - Salle de bain des enfants

The contractor is working on that project at the same time than the master suite. The upstairs bathroom (because there is one in the basement... we'll come to that one later) was from another time, a bit small for 3 kids, definitely needing some extra closet space and yes really .... Green!!!
